🪩 About W*acking

W*acking is a club dance style that originated in 1970s Los Angeles, created by gay BIPOC men in underground clubs. It began as a social dance and a powerful way to express oneself freely on the dance floor. Clubs offered a space where community, connection, and self-expression could exist without judgment. The style is inspired by Hollywood action films, movie divas, cartoon characters, and martial arts, and is most often danced to 70s–80s disco music. W*acking is deeply rooted in improvisation and is characterized by fast, circular arm movements, posing, theatricality, and bold expressiveness.

⭐️ Meet Sofia Renata

Sofia Renata is a passionate dance researcher and performer who loves sharing her joy for movement with others. As an emerging dance artist, she is drawn to club dance styles for their sense of community and their invitation to explore personal boundaries. Her background in contemporary dance gave her a strong drive to learn, but the unapologetic expressiveness and grandeur of w*acking completely transformed her world. She values the deep connection between music and the human soul and has a special love for music from the 70s to the 90s.

W*acking opened the door for Sofia to fully release her true self and to find beauty in every form, whether it’s elegant, raw, awkward, playful, powerful, or soft.
